War Veteran

I did not know for sure. I did not dare ask him if he had lived the D-day, The Landing. It seemed so though. What I was able to feel was his sad, speechless looking that seemed to last hours. As if recalling fallen, shots, ships and tanks, submachine guns. There, I felt the atmosphere of respect and solemnity. There at dawn on June 6th, 1944, 4000 allied soldiers lost their lives. This old soldier appearence speaks for itself.

No lo sabía a ciencia cierta. No me atreví a preguntarle si había vivido el "Día D", el desembarco. Eso parecía, sin embargo. Lo que pude sentir fue su mirada triste y sin habla que pareció durar horas. Como si recordara caídos, disparos, barcos y tanques, metralletas. Allí sentí el ambiente de respeto y solemnidad. Ahí, en la madrugada del 6 de junio de 1944, 4.000 soldados aliados perdieron la vida. La apariencia de este viejo soldado habla por sí misma.
